Crafty Mom Monday: Adoily-able Shirts or Canvas Bags
I am ON A MISSION to become a Craftier-Mom! I can admit, I am green with envy of those moms that can do it all, and whip up these amazing DIY crafts that make their home look wonderful. Paired with my absolute favorite Do-It-Yourself websites, I am doing what I thought was unthinkable and transforming into not only a fugal mom, but a frugal crafty mom. The task is not easy, and I am sure I will be sporting lots of battle scars (like the one from the hot glue gun earlier) but being frugal & crafty will be a great add to the resume!
It’s been a few months since we have had a “Crafty Mom Monday” post but I am vowing to get better at it. I’ve been continuing on my crafting missions but finding less time to post about them…. bad, bad EasternShoreMom I have been ;) So here is today’s craft:

A-doilyable Valentines Day Shirts
I saw this cutesy craft while perusing one of my favorite craft magazines, Family Fun by Disney! This seems super simple but I am going to put my own spin on it. I have had these canvas craft totes that I picked up at a yard sale a while back that I have been searching for something to do with. This will be perfect for Addison & a friend to do this weekend when we have a play date!
Here is what you need
- prewashed t-shirt (or in my case the canvas totes, seems you can use pretty much anything that is fabric. I’m sure most of us have an extra solid t-shirt laying around.)
- doily
- glue stick
- newspaper
- fabric paint
- foam stencil brush
ESM Tips: Be sure to use the Hobby Lobby 40% off Coupon for the fabric paint/foam brush. You can print the coupon or just show it to them on your smartphone.
Instructions
-
- Place newspaper inside a prewashed T-shirt so that the paint won’t bleed through.
- Coat the center of the back of a doily with a thin layer of glue stick. Press the doily onto the shirt, sticky side down.

- Pour fabric paint into a shallow dish. Using a foam stencil brush, dab fabric paint all over the lacy part of the doily as shown.
- Carefully peel the doily from the shirt, then let the paint dry. Set the paint according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Family Fun Tips: For the best results, use a toothpick to remove those stubborn paper bits from the holes of the doily before using it. When painting, don’t overload the brush, and tap it straight up and down onto the shirt. (instructions and pictures provided by FamilyFun.com)
