Review: RedBox Reserve a Movie Option
I love RedBox- I love how I can use the free rental codes and how frequently they come out. However, I don’t like how you have to drive all the way to RedBox, wait in line, just to find that the movie you want to rent is checked out.
Recently I told you all about the new IPhone App for RedBox- well last night I experimented with it. Side Note: What you can do on the IPhone app you can also do from their website RedBox.com, so you do not have to have an IPhone to be able to do everything I am about to tell you about.
I have been wanting to see “Couples Retreat” for a while now but everytime I stop by to rent it the movie is always checked out. While sitting at dinner I downloaded the app on my phone and started from there.
- I searched for my move then plugged in my location as my zip code which then pulled up every RedBox kiosk near me.
- It was “Checked Out” of the Walgreens in Fairhope location but when I click the Walmart location is popped up as “Reserve” meaning it was available and I could reserve the movie so no one checked it out in the time it takes me to get there.
- I quickly created an account on my phone (which would only take just a second on the computer because it only took me just a minute on my phone and the buttons are a lot smaller) which requires your Credit Card number. THEY DO NOT CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD UNTIL YOU SWIPE IT AT THE KIOSK. If you do not pick up the movie by the time they give you they will release it for others to rent.
So off I went to Walmart to pick up my movie. Once at Walmart, I waited in line until it was my turn. Once I was up at the kiosk I pressed the button “Pick Up a Reserved Movie” and it asked me to swipe my card. Once I did it gave me a “Thankyou” and spit out my movie- THAT SIMPLE.
Downfall: You cannot use a coupon code when renting this way. It does not give you the option to enter it online nor when you pick up the DVD. But it is only $1 so it isn’t that bad. I understand why they would not let you use the code because they are losing money by not letting someone else rent it and you are renting it for free. I guess the advantage of using the codes is you are not reserving it to rent.
I checked out the app on my IPhone this morning to see what it looks like after I set up the account, you can view all of the movies available at the locations near you which is nice so you know what you can get instead of going all the way there without knowing if you are getting you movie or not
OVERALL I GIVE IT AN A- (Just because of not being able to use my free codes)
