  • What about having a Day After Holiday- Holiday?

    Feb 15

While strolling through Publix at lunch time I saw tons of flowers and next to them was my all-time favorite sign to see at any store…. 75% OFF! Desperately trying to rid themselves of the overstock of bundles of beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers from Valentine’s day, what you would have paid $20 for yesterday- you now pay $5 for today.

This reminded me of a GREAT theory I am thinking about adopting, what if we were to celebratesome holidays the day after!? The initial grasp of the concept is “No, it just wouldn’t be the same…” however, when thinking about just how much money you would be saving makes you take a second look at the idea. Not for important holidays (i.e. Christmas & other Religious holidays)  but just for the ones that the holiday-money-seeking businesses have created just as a *getcha* to us the consumers. Really, would it have made a difference to you if your husband bought you $20 flowers at 10PM last night or $5 of the same flowers at 7AM this morning?

The theory does not just apply for Valentine’s day flowers- think of all the money you would save on Halloween costumes and candy? Keeping that in mind, it makes it worth taking a second look, huh!

I am interested in what you guys think. Should we create a day after the holiday-holiday or has being frugal taken over my brain?

Sounds interesting, but then the holiday would eventually just get moved back a day. I think Trick or Treating would be hard to do on November 1st.

I LOVE the day after a holiday! I never miss one…I stock up on all kinds off things for the next year. I will get all of the goodies needed to make treatbags for my 2 girls classmate or things that can be used for presents! I bought Halloween costumes at walmart for $5.00 after the holiday and then gave them to the girls for Christmas…they play with them all the time for dressup!!
